While a student, Harold Wade, Jr. worked to strengthen the black community at Amherst, including organizing the Afro American Society and initiating recruitment materials aimed at attracting black high school students to Amherst. His book,&nbsp;<em>Black Men of Amherst</em>, was published posthumously by the College and is an important work that documents the achievements of many black Amherst graduates.</p> <hr> <p>The <a href="/mm/532499">Office of Diversity, Equity&nbsp;&amp; Inclusion</a> has formed an advisory group to reinvigorate the Wade Fellowship, a decades-long platform at the College for recognizing black alumni achievement and connecting black alumni with students for career mentorship and discussions on campus.&nbsp;<a href="/mm/288997">Wade Fellows</a> provide a meaningful and important voice in ongoing diversity and inclusion work, the career development needs of Amherst students, and in strengthening the alumni network connection between black alumni and students.</p></div> Fri, 02 Dec 2016 21:14:00 +0000 ahuhmann 668157 at https://www.amherst.edu 2023-2025 Wade Fellow: William C. Born and raised in Brooklyn, where he still&nbsp;lives with his family, he completed his undergraduate studies in Black Studies and&nbsp;Biology at Amherst College and received his medical degree from Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City. After completing his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at NYP/Columbia in 2002, Dr. Turner joined the faculty of Columbia University's Vagelos School of Physicians and Surgeons where he has been an Advisory Dean since 2010 and is Faculty Advisor for the Black and Latino Student Organization (BALSO).
