You are kindly invited to this talk by Izzy Sanabria on his graphic design work and its role in salsa music history.

__________

Salsa music, the most iconic expression of Latinx identity in the 1970s, became a global phenomenon partly as a result of the creative work of Israel Sanabria Morales, better known as Izzy Sanabria. He is a Nuyorican graphic designer, performer and publisher, and was also the official emcee of Fania All Stars, salsa music’s most legendary band.

Sanabria successfully undertook the colossal task of giving Afro-Caribbean Latin music a visual expression through a number of era-defining posters and record covers. Also, through his multifaceted work, he made the term “salsa” a popular designation for this type of music.

A modern Renaissance man, Izzy Sanabria is the living history of salsa music, and we are honored to host him at Amherst College for a public presentation of his work.
