Timothy attended Dartmouth College, earning his B. A. in pure mathematics (with a minor concentration in music) in 1997.  He joined the Quantitative Center as a Fellow in September 2001, when the College established the Center’s directorship and brought the Center out of its tiny headquarters in McGuire, where Fellows had served as directors for the first five years, and into the current space in Merrill.  In Timothy’s first years, his mission was to support calculus-students at all levels and some students who were not ready to begin calculus yet.  That mission has enlarged gradually to take in the core of the mathematics-major—calculus, linear algebra, abstract algebra (groups, rings, and fields), and analysis—and other courses, such as discrete mathematics, introductory statistics, and Physics 227 (Methods of Theoretical Physics), that draw students to the Quantitative Center.  Always enthusiastic about mathematics, patient, and willing to dig into challenging problems and proofs, Timothy loves working with Amherst College’s bright and engaging students.
