Alumni and friends joined us for Training for Challenges You Didn’t Dream Of, a live, virtual event presented by Dr. Herman Williams, president of HW Healthcare Solutions. Dr. Williams discussed the challenges he encountered while at Amherst and how, upon reflection, those experiences prepared him for managing a life-threatening cardiac arrest.

Herman Williams ’80 has a long history as a senior executive with extensive healthcare expertise that includes the management and operations of large-scale national clinics and hospitals. His healthcare experience began as a healthcare manager of the Pacific Northwest Healthcare Consulting Division of Arthur Andersen. From there, he started his first consulting firm, Herman Williams Consulting.

Dr. Williams is currently the president of HW Healthcare Solutions, a multifaceted healthcare consulting firm focused on healthcare solutions for medical staffs, physician practices and hospitals. He is also an experienced executive coach, with a successful track record of developing leaders, teams and organizations for more than 10 years. He has achieved the ranking of Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation.

He holds a Doctor of Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Washington and a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University. On a more personal note, he currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife of 32 years and 27-year-old son. In his spare time, he enjoys working out and composing/recording music.

Jack Johnson Pannell ’80 is the Head of School and Founder of Trinity Arch Prep. He is a nationally recognized leader, thinker, and writer about boys’ education. Mr. Pannell is an Amherst College graduate with an A.B. degree in American Studies. He has a J.D. degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Mr. Pannell also has a certificate from the Harvard Business School Executive Education program in School Management and Leadership.
