“The Quest for Free Labor”

Elizabeth Anderson, the John Dewey Distinguished University Professor of Philosophy and Women's Studies (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor), presented the Ninth Annual Amherst Lecture in Philosophy, “The Quest for Free Labor” on Thursday, March 6, in the Pruyne Lecture Hall (Fayerweather Hall 115) at 5 p.m.

Abstract

Her talk was about "what it meant to be a free worker in the wake of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment prohibiting involuntary servitude, and struggles to advance ideals of labor freedom in the Industrial Revolution. Freedom is an ideal still very much in the making in the domain of work."
