In Memory

John Burlingham died last summer. A true child of the Pacific Northwest, he was born in Portland and attended Lakeside School in Seattle. John found great interest at the College in the areas of American literature and mathematics. He graduated with honors. When drafted, he served with the U.S. Army in engineering at Fort Bragg, N.C. He then achieved an advanced degree in architecture from the University of Oregon. He worked as a licensed architect until his retirement.

John was an active volunteer and enjoyed supporting his local community, especially the Oregon Historical Society, the Oregon Food Bank and the Returning Veterans Medical Center. He enjoyed travel, Oregon history and exploring the Pacific Northwest. He loved classical music, opera, film and literature.

We talked of a visit when I saw my son, who lives in Hood River, Ore. But we never made the personal connection.
