Jennifer attended a small liberal arts college in Michigan, Kalamazoo College, with the assistance of a Pell Grant, a Michigan tuition grant, and awards from the Upjohn Company.  She obtained a PhD in Biophysical Chemistry in Gary Brudvig's lab at Yale University in 1993, and did post-doctoral research with Harry Frank at University of Connecticut.  After a stint as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Trinity College in Hartford, she decided to focus on math and science education and quantitative literacy, first at Smith College, and beginning in 2003 at Amherst College.  She also directs the Amherst College Summer Science Program.
