Franklin passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2023, in the company of his family and his dog Hansel after living a full and wonderful life. Franklin matriculated at Amherst in fall 1953, was a member of the varsity crew team and Kappa Theta fraternity, and served as a technical director at the WAMF radio station. Franklin once tried to record Robert Frost, who winked at my father in acknowledgment. After graduation, Franklin attended Harvard Business School graduating with his MBA in 1959.

Franklin is survived by his wife, Jane; their four children and six grandchildren; and by his sister, Susan. Franklin loved Jane, his wife of 63 years; his family; his dogs; the Boston Red Sox; a cold beer with his lunch; skiing; traveling with the Wally Byam Airstream Club; and anything he could do to be outdoors.

Franklin remained a dedicated Amherst alum his whole life. I still remember how thrilled he was when I matriculated at Amherst. Franklin’s Amherst armchair was a beloved fixture in his home and now mine.
