1. Accessing Your Amherst College Email

Remember: Protect your Amherst password!

In most cases, your username and password are the same as those used during the application period, which is [firstinitiallastname28] followed by @amherst.edu. There are some exceptions, including language assistants and transfer students. For transfer students, we’ve changed your username to reflect your current class year.

To access your email, go to Gmail.com. Select “Sign in.” If logged in already, log out and then select “Use another account.” Type your full Amherst email address then select “Next.” Log in using your Amherst username and password. If you have forgotten your password, please use the email password reset form.

Your Amherst email will be used for all official College communications, including with your academic advisor, professors, and administrative offices. It is your responsibility to check it frequently during the summer and school year. If you are in a location where you do not have access to Google services, we will assist you in setting up email forwarding to an address you can access until your arrival to campus. 2. Logging Into Workday and Your Student ID Number

Your ID number for four years!

Workday Student is an online platform that provides Amherst College students with administrative information including advising, student accounts, class lists, grades and more. While logged into Workday, in the top right area of your screen, click on your picture or the default cloud icon and select “View Profile.” Your student ID number is the 7-digit number that is listed under Student Information. This will be an important piece of information throughout your time at Amherst.

3. Onboarding Steps in Workday

Get to know Workday!

There are a number of forms that require your immediate attention in Workday. Once you have logged into Workday, you can access your onboarding tasks either on your Workday homepage, or by clicking on “your inbox” in the upper right corner of the homepage. Step by step instructions can be found in the document linked below. Please be sure to click “submit” at the bottom of all forms.

4. Submit Student ID Photo

Your Amherst College student ID is your ticket to important locations and services on campus, such as entering your residential hall, eating at Valentine Dining Hall, doing your laundry, accessing athletic facilities, printing, and checking out books at any of the Five College libraries. Your ID photo will also populate the Campus Directory and the class rosters your professors will use to get to know you. Submit your photo now.

5. Complete your housing questionnaire and prepare for arrival

Ensure your housing preferences are met!

To ensure your housing preferences are met, visit our Housing Portal and complete your housing questionnaire. This is a key step in determining your room and roommate and is due Monday, July 1, 2024.

Roommates and rooms will be assigned based on your responses to the questionnaire in the portal. We do not accommodate specific residence halls or roommate requests.

6. New Student Orientation Moodle Course

A helpful course!

Moodle is the online platform used by our faculty for your academic classes. For Orientation, you have been enrolled in the New Student Orientation Moodle Course. This course includes helpful information as you begin to explore and engage with Amherst College. We ask that you complete each topic on the Moodle page prior to your arrival to campus.

7. Arrival at Amherst and Orientation

Welcome to Amherst!

New students must arrive and move into their residence hall at the College on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. for Orientation. Specific details about move-in day will be provided later this summer. Families of new students will be invited to participate in special Orientation events on arrival day. Unless otherwise indicated, Orientation activities are for students only.

New international students who are participating in New International Student Pre- Orientation should plan to arrive on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Pre-Orientation is open to all students of international experience who have spent a significant portion of their formative years outside of the U.S. Pre-Orientation is mandatory for new F-1 and J-1 students. If you are a new student who will not hold an F-1 or J-1 visa but would like to express interest in attending Pre-Orientation, please submit the Pre-O Interest form by June 28, 2024.

New transfer or veteran students who are participating in Transfer and Veteran Student Pre-Orientation should plan to arrive on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Learn more and register through this form by June 26, 2024.
