A physician by trade, Deane considered geology and paleontology side interests (though he published important works in their studies). He is most famous for his book </span><em><span>Ichnographs from the Sandstone of Connecticut River </span></em><span>which was full of beautiful photographs of the trackways. It is a small obelisk labeled DEANE and surrounded by the graves of James Deane’s mother, siblings, wife, and daughters. You can park along the gravel roads nearby.
