Amherst College Department of Spanish Presents:

Latino Film & Comic Book Scholar Dr. Christopher González, Texas A&M University
“21st Century Latino Identity and Experience in Film and Fiction”

Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Pruyne Lecture Hall from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Professor González, whose work includes studies of Junot Díaz's fiction, Wilfred Santiago's comics and Robert Rodriguez's films, will lead us on a journey into the final frontera of Latinidad as he explores visual narratives in science fiction, film, comic book and televisual formats.

González will pull back the curtains on fictional Latinos in unexpected narrative spaces. He will show why these necessary excursions into the realm of the impossible resonate so powerfully in our 21st-century realities. We will learn the importance of locating complex Latino of identities and chart the progress of storytelling by, for and about Latinos.

This event is sponsored by the Department of Spanish, along with the Lamont Funds.

Refreshments will follow.
