BANGOR - Clergue Tolman Jones, 81, died December 12, 2019, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born August 16, 1938, in Washington, D.C., to Joseph Marion Jones and Sarah Plant (Harrison) Jones.
Clergue graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and subsequently attended Amherst College and University of Chicago.

In 1966, he married Eileen Dena Ross, with whom he had two children, Joshua and Rachel. He had a number of occupations, including probation officer, researcher, taxi driver, and in his later years, returned to school and earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Maine, going on to briefly serve as town manager for Cherryfield.

Clergue was an avid reader, and very interested in politics, public policy and international affairs. He also had a great love for the out of doors and enjoyed hikes with his children in the Appalachian Mountains as well as his beloved Mount Katahdin. He really loved his dog Murphy.

His was predeceased by his parents, Sally and Lee Tolman of Castine and Joseph and Lillian Jones of Aldie, Virginia.
Clergue is survived by his daughter, Rachel Conner and her husband, Nick and their children, Gemma and Wyatt; his son, Joshua Jones, and his wife, Samantha and their son, Galen; his sister, Clarissa Leonard and her husband, John; his niece, Katherine and her husband, Mark and their children, Asher and Maya.

A graveside services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to meet 9:45 AM, Wednesday, at the Superintendents Lodge, 1048 State Street, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Clergue in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt Hope Ave, Bangor, Maine 04401.
