In Memory

Bill passed away on Jan. 28 at his home.

Bill’s path to Amherst was not a typical one. Born on Sept. 27, 1938, in Ohio, Bill lived in Kalamazoo, Mich., as a child, and graduated from Holyoke High School. He attended Holyoke Community College in 1956 and 1957, Columbia University for the fall semester of 1965 and Greenfield Community College from the fall of 1980 to the spring of 1981. He matriculated at Amherst in 1981 as a junior and graduated in the spring of 1983. He was an anthropology major.

He later attended the School of Library Science at the State University of New York in Albany. He worked as a reference librarian at Springfield College and at the law library at the Massachusetts Trial Court in Springfield. Earlier he had been a textbook manager at several bookstores, Columbia Teachers College in New York City, Mount Holyoke College and UMass Amherst. He retired in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; son and daughter-in-law Gabe and Zinny Stetson; a grandson; and a sister, Anne Clower, and her family.
