Paul Rieckhoff ’98 delivered the 2009 DeMott Lecture to the Class of 2013 on Monday, August 31, 2009.

Rieckhoff is executive director and founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), a non partisan non profit founded in 2004 with tens of thousands of members in all 50 U.S. states. Rieckhoff himself was a first lieutenant and infantry rifle platoon leader in the Iraq war from 2003 to 2004. He is now a nationally recognized authority on the war in Iraq and issues affecting troops, military families and veterans and has been featured in numerous media outlets, including The Charlie Rose Show, 60 Minutes, ABC World News Tonight, All Things Considered, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Army Times and The Wall Street Journal, among others. His first book, a critically acclaimed account of his experiences in Iraq and activism afterwards titled Chasing Ghosts, was published by Penguin in May 2006.

Former Senator Harris Wofford

Harris Wofford spoke as part of Community Action Day on Thursday, November 5. Senator Wofford is a former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania and has served as associate director of the Peace Corps, special assistant to President John F. Kennedy for civil rights, and CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
