AMHERST, Mass.—Amherst College’s jazz groups, the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combos, have announced their final performances for the semester. The Jazz Ensemble will perform on Monday, May 3, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall of the college’s Arms Music Center, while the Jazz Combos will play on Sunday, May 2, at 4 p.m. in Room 3 of the Arms Music Center; Wednesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Friedmann Room of the Keefe Campus Center; and Friday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. also in the Friedmann Room of the Keefe Campus Center.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Bruce Diehl, will perform the world premiere of “Smoke and Mirrors” by Earl MacDonald, the Robin McBride ’59 Commission composer. The ensemble will also perform the works of Sam Friend ’10, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Bob Curnow, Nancy Wilson and Jerome Kern.

The Jazz Combo groups will play original compositions, jazz standards and exciting adaptations.

All of these concerts are open to the public at no charge.
