AMHERST, Mass.—Henry Oscar Bedford ’11, in conjunction with the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College, is showing the video installation Left and Leaving in the Stearns Steeple on the school’s campus. The video installation will be on view through August 2010, during the museum’s regular open hours.
A recipient of the Mead/Fine Arts Summer Fellowship in History of Art and the Practice of Art, Bedford produced three short films, Left and Leaving, Long May You Run and The Circle Game during the summer 2009. In his artist’s statement, Bedford explains, “I was born and raised in London by American parents, and made my long-anticipated move to the States three years ago. Concentrating on this monumental transition in my life, these videos address the inexactitude of memories and of anticipations, and my reckoning with these vague impressions in the fleeting present.”
The Mead Art Museum houses the art collection of Amherst College, totaling more than 16,000 works. An accredited member of the American Association of Museums, the Mead participates in Museums10, a regional cultural collaboration. During the academic term, the museum is open Tuesdays through Thursdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to midnight, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
