Sorting Donations
Donations are collected during Move Out. The Office of Sustainbility staff sort through all of the donations during the summer to assess what is still usable, and then make those items available during the Giant Move In Yard Sale.

During Move In Orientation the Office of Sustainability coordinates and hosts a giant free yard sale in the Ice Rink at which we make available all of the donations we gathered. So much great stuff for student's rooms!
In the fall the Office of Sustainability hosts a free clothing extravaganza that offers up all of the donated clothes gathered during Move Out. The event is held in the Ice Rink and has been a huge success with over 90% of what we collected finding a second home!
As you pack up your rooms to Move Out, we are hoping to minimize the amount of waste headed to the landfill. To that end, the custodial staff will be providing you donation bags and tags for any items you would like to donate. These items will be gathered, organized, and put out for the Fall Move In Yardsale and Clothing Extravaganza so that they can have a second life!
- One donation bag is intended for clothes donations. You can place any clothes you would like to donate into the bag and attach the provided white "clothes donation" sticker to it.
- A second bag is intended for all other donatable items from room decor to books to paper products to electronics to linens ... and anything else you think is still usable! You can place any items you would like to donate into the bag and attach the provided purple "Other Donatables" sticker to it.
All donation bags (clothes and other donatables) along with any larger room items you would like to donate (e.g., lamps, fans, storage bins, chairs, etc ...) should be placed in the designated areas in the first floor common spaces. Drop spots will be clearly marked with a "Place Donations Here" banner.
As you put together what to donate, please be mindful of what you put in the bags.
Please do NOT include these items in the donation bags:
Anything that is unreasonably dirty
Trash
Any opened food items
Broken electronics (e.g., lamps, fans, clocks)
Liquids or gels that might leak. Make sure tops are securely on if you donate any items with liquids in them!
