The Nazi Olympics

Listed in: First Year Seminar, as FYSE-23

Faculty

Allen Guttmann (Section 01)

Description

This course deals with four “streams”: the evolving culture of Weimar Germany, the rise of Adolf Hitler and the emergence of his dictatorial regime, the development of modern sports and the evolution of German films, feature as well as documentary. The climax of the course occurs with the confluence of these streams during the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin when Leni Riefenstahl produced her still-controversial two-part documentary film, Olympia. Fall semester. Professor Guttmann.
