The purpose of the Faculty Handbook is to provide all members of the faculty, particularly those who are new to Amherst, with knowledge of the policies, regulations, practices, and expectations that prevail at Amherst College. Provisions of the handbook, whether derived from trustee vote, faculty vote, or administrative or trustee action are subject to modification or revocation by the appropriate authority following proper procedure.

Faculty Housing Information

The faculty handbook includes information on the College's rental housing program, the house purchasing plan, and the house purchase subsidy program, as as well as information on Five-College rental housing.

Sabbaticals and Leaves of Absence

All faculty members planning leaves in either or both semesters are asked to discuss their intentions with their department chairs before submitting leave requests. This will help departments with curricular planning.
