What is Pre-O?

New International Student Pre-Orientation focuses on helping students prepare for life in the U. S., exploring topics such as culture shock, employment on campus as a F-1 or J-1 student, and "How Amherst Works" as told by current international students. Pre-O also provides an opportunity to establish U. S. bank accounts and shop for personal necessities. Please note that arrival day for the 2024 program is August 22, and the program will run until August 27, when general orientation will begin.

F-1 and J-1 visa-holding students are required to attend the full Pre-O program.  If you are not an F-1 and J-1 visa-holding student but are new to living in the U.S., please submit this form to express your interest in attending the 2024 International Student Pre-Orientation Program by June 28, 2024.
