Religious and Spiritual Life chaplains and director are available for one on one spiritual counseling. Sessions are tailored to the interests and needs of the student, staff, or faculty member—from exploring faith to learning new spiritual practices to coping with stress or loss. Topics can include religious questions, spiritual practices, relationship struggles, occupational discernment, purpose and values, grief and anxiety, and much more.
You don't need to be religious to ask for a session!
Across topics, our role is exploratory and supportive rather than directive or prescriptive. Conversations are kept confidential, with the exception of A) imminent and significant threat to self or others, in which case limited appropriate resources will be contacted, or B) in some cases of litigation or external investigation.
Some of what RSL staff to bring to these conversations is:
- Curiosity
- A wish to understand
- Deep listening
- Attention to the impact of intersectional identities
- Ability to sit with discomfort
- A willingness to ask generative questions
- Familiarity with campus resources
The chaplains are available from mid-August through the end of May each year, and RSL Director Harrison Blum is available throughout the calendar year.
