Q: What object did you use to represent your work on the shoot and why?
A: I brought over a model of an alpha helix—one of the basic structural components in a protein, a major element in both my teaching and my research.
Q: What are you looking forward to in the new space?
A: Contiguous faculty from other departments just a short distance away, and a lab where I will not have to spend hours just cleaning dirt and dust off of the optics in my experiments.
Q: How will the building impact your work?
A: I hope more inter-department collaborations will occur for the faculty, and having research students clustered by field rather than by faculty can only enrich their experiences.
Q: How will the new building change how you work with students?
A: It will provide collaborative discussion spaces for teaching and proximity of other research lab personnel in the student spaces.
