The Strategic Learning Center (SLC) promotes student academic success, enriches academic experiences, and encourages holistic student development. Through a student-centered and growth mindset approach, we help students identify and implement individualized strategies, behaviors, and actions to achieve self-defined goals throughout all stages of life at Amherst. With access to one-on-one academic coaching sessions, group workshops, and key learning resources, we aim to provide students with the means necessary to fully experience the transformative magnitude of an Amherst College liberal arts education.

Larissa E. Hopkins

Director of the Strategic Learning Center

Larissa received her B.A. from Hamilton College and Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her experience as a first generation, low-income student at an elite college inspired her passion for helping students navigate college life, develop a sense of belonging, and strategically access key resources for achieving collegiate goals. Larissa offers one-on-one academic coaching where she assists students with goal setting, time management, organization, stress management and an array of learning strategies. As a former two-sport collegiate scholar-athlete, she understands the necessity of honing academic skills and strategies for reaching academic goals while maintaining holistic health and well-being. Larissa enjoys adventures with her family, hiking, kayaking, and reading and writing about social justice issues.
