Feminist Movements in an Era of Global Conservatism

Cole Assembly Room | 4:30pm to 7pm

Feminist movements face unprecedented challenges amidst the growth of right wing parties, movements and regimes.  State repression, militarization, neo-liberal policies and religious conservatism threaten many of the gains women, racial and religious minorities and LGBT groups have made. While women have been made targets of these reactionary trends, they have also been at the forefront of progressive movements. What lessons can we learn from women's movements cross-nationally about the possibilities of organizing across multiple lines of difference? We will feature a roundtable of an international panel of scholars.

March 9:

Craftivist: Making a Feminist Quilt

WGC | 5pm to 8pm

The Women’s and Gender Center is creating a feminist quilt in honor of 40 years of co-education at Amherst College.  Throughout history, women used quilting both as a form of relaxation and as a form of community building to reflect the experiences of their lives.  Come to the Women’s and Gender Center and contribute to the Quilt by decorating a patch inspired by your favorite feminists.  No previous sewing skills needed. Dinner will be provided.
