South Asian Feminists 

March 1 from 1:00-6:00 PM in Fayerweather 113.

A panel discussion on what feminist thought and activism looks like in the South Asian context. Professors Pinky Hota (Smith), Uzma Aslam Khan (Hampshire) and Amrita Basu (Amherst) will discuss important questions about who controls the freedom of movement of women, ethnic minorities, and queer bodies. Event information here.

Come into the WGC and make a quilt square for the community quilt!

International Women's Day

March 8 from 11:30-6:00 PM in the WGC.

International Women’s Day is a day in which faculty, staff, alumni, and students join together in the Women’s and Gender Center to engage in a series of hour-long dialogues around what it means to hold an identity as a woman in an international context. Join us for International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2018. Sessions will begin at 11:30AM and go until 6:00PM. Each session is an hour long -- come and go as you like! Event information here.

Beauty Culture: Exploring Gender Expression and Sizism through Makeup

March 22 in the WGC.

Is Sephora your version of a kid’s candy store? Do the words fenty, too faced, and urban decay make your heart race? If so, come join us at the WGC to have a conversation on the construction of beauty culture through makeup (while playing with makeup!). We will talk about your favorite beauty bloggers and YouTube makeup experts with a specific focus on how makeup can be used as a tool for gender expression. We’ll also be addressing sizeism as it relates to beauty culture. People of all gender identities are welcome to join!

Women of Color Luncheon

March 23 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM in the WGC.

We will be making empowerment vision boards! These boards will encapsulate where we are in life, what we celebrate currently, as well as elements of what we aspire to. Lunch will be served. This is a space that centers women of color.

First Year Feminist Brunch

March 25 from 11:30-12:30 in the WGC.

Join the Women’s and Gender Center for the First Year Feminists brunch! We will be having a conversation about what it means to be a “feminist”, and different ways that you can get involved in WGC. Students of all gender identities are welcome. Brunch food will be provided!

An Evening with Kat Blaque

Join the WGC for our Women’s History Month keynote, “An Evening With Kat Blaque.” Kat Blaque is a popular black trans Youtuber, illustrator, animator, writer, and trans activist known for her “True Tea” videos and her commentary on race, gender, transphobia, and other social justice issues. She has contributed to sites such as “Everyday Feminism” and “Huffington Post,” and co-created the short film on privilege titled “Sometimes You’re A Caterpillar.” Join us for her keynote talk, which will be followed by a Q&A session.

Crafternoons

March 28 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the WGC.

Join us on the last Wednesday of each month for Crafternoons! Ashley Maitland, Assistant Director of Residential Life, will teach us how to do a variety of arts and crafts. March's craft is weaving! (next line) Ashley started working at Amherst College in August 2016. Before coming to Amherst College, she received her Masters of Education in Student Affairs with a certificate in Social Justice Education from Iowa State University. Ashley is passionate about and finds joy in feminism, social justice, crafts, dogs and yummy food!

LinkedIn Panel

March 30, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM in the WGC.

This will be a panel in which students from a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds will present tips and tricks for constructing a LinkedIn profile.
