Fellowships for seniors and alums
CHURCHILL SCHOLARSHIP
One-year long, fully-funded grant for graduate research/study (generally a master's degree) in the sciences, math, or engineering at the University of Cambridge, UK, residing at Churchill College. Open to graduating seniors and alumni within 12 months; exceptionally high GPA; considerable research in subject area; U.S. citizens only, must apply to Cambridge separately.
FULBRIGHT U.S. STUDENT PROGRAM
One year of independent research, study, or assistant-teaching English abroad. Open to seniors and recent graduates (usually within about six years); U.S. citizens; specific qualifications depend on grant type and destination country; candidates applying for a study grant must apply to universities separately.
GAITHER/CARNEGIE JUNIOR FELLOWS PROGRAM
One-year, paid research assistant position working with senior researchers on policy topics at the Carnegie Endowment for Peace. Open to graduating seniors and alumni within the last year; all citizenships; high GPA, and a significant amount of coursework and research in the topic area; language proficiency or quantitative skills required for some topics.
GATES CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP
One to three years of postgraduate study in any field at the University of Cambridge, UK. Open to graduating seniors and alumni of any age; all citizenships; outstanding intellectual ability with a high GPA; a good fit between the applicant's qualifications and the chosen program at Cambridge; a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others; leadership potential.
KNIGHT HENNESSY SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Full funding for up to first three years of graduate study at Stanford University. Open to citizens of all countries with high academic achievement (must get into department at Stanford) who can "out-think, out-work, and out-care others."
LUCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM
One year career-based internship in Asia. Open to graduating seniors, graduate students, and young professionals who will not have turned 30 by July 1st of the year they enter the program; U.S. citizens only; high GPA; demonstrated leadership; those with significant experience in Asia or Asian studies are not eligible; candidates may have spent no more than 12 weeks in an Asian country.
MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP
One-to-two year scholarships for postgraduate study to intellectually distinguished U.S. citizens who show promise of becoming future leaders. Study is welcomed in any field at any UK university. Open to graduating seniors and alumni within two years of their undergraduate graduation; required minimum 3.7 GPA; demonstrated potential to become a leader in their field and interest in strengthening U.S.-UK relationship; may not have already have a UK graduate degree
GEORGE J. MITCHELL SCHOLARSHIP
One academic year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland. Open to graduating seniors and alumni up to age 30; U.S. citizens only; high GPA with significant record of scholarship, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service; candidates need not apply separately to the Irish university.
RHODES SCHOLARSHIP
Two to three years of study in any subject leading to a degree at the University of Oxford, UK. Open to US citizens chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead.
RHODES SCHOLARSHIP - INT'L
Rhodes Scholars are also selected from certain countries outside the U.S. Open to candidates chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead. International applicants apply through their home countries, not through Amherst.
SCHWARZMAN SCHOLARS PROGRAM
One year master’s degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing in Public Policy; Economics and Business; or International Studies, with leadership, cultural immersion, and networking programming. Open to graduating seniors or alumni under the age of 29; all citizenships; English language proficiency; demonstrated academic excellence; 3.7 GPA recommended; clearly demonstrated leadership potential.
