Mt. Tom
Location: 125 Reservation Road, Holyoke, MA 01040
Mt. Tom is made up of basalt flows that formed as the supercontinent Pangea broke up about 200 million years ago. You’ll notice sharp, polygonal, formations called columnar joints that formed as lava cools and contracts. You might also find polished surfaces with scratch marks left behind as glaciers passed over the mountain.
