- Host a staff-appreciation day with Amherst Appreciations funds.
- Give employees an extra-long lunch break occasionally.
- Host a divisional or departmental pizza party.
- Encourage and allow time for staff members to participate in professional development opportunities or on committees.
- Consider hosting a team meeting somewhere other than your usual spot.
- If feasible and as appropriate, treat a staff member to lunch once a month. Make sure to rotate through all staff.
- Express an interest in a staff member’s career or life development goals.
- Send a personalized letter of appreciation at the end of a project to the all members of the project team.
- Hold an informal retreat to set team goals and foster communication and team-building.
- Serve ice cream sundaes on a particularly hot summer day.
- During a team meeting, share a reason you appreciate your staff.
- Give staff members tickets to an Amherst athletic or cultural event.
- Host a team breakfast.
- Allow staff to arrive an hour later to work.
- Provide staff members with gift certificates to a movie theater and let them leave early to attend.
- Pop in on a kickoff meeting for a project to say thank you.
- Schedule a team community service day and volunteer together at a local charity.
- Establish a regular team social lunch at Val.
