  1. Host a staff-appreciation day with Amherst Appreciations funds.
  2. Give employees an extra-long lunch break occasionally.
  3. Host a divisional or departmental pizza party.
  4. Encourage and allow time for staff members to participate in professional development opportunities or on committees.
  5. Consider hosting a team meeting somewhere other than your usual spot.
  6. If feasible and as appropriate, treat a staff member to lunch once a month. Make sure to rotate through all staff.
  7. Express an interest in a staff member’s career or life development goals.
  8. Send a personalized letter of appreciation at the end of a project to the all members of the project team. 
  9. Hold an informal retreat to set team goals and foster communication and team-building.
  10. Serve ice cream sundaes on a particularly hot summer day.
  11. During a team meeting, share a reason you appreciate your staff.
  12. Give staff members tickets to an Amherst athletic or cultural event.
  13. Host a team breakfast.
  14. Allow staff to arrive an hour later to work.
  15. Provide staff members with gift certificates to a movie theater and let them leave early to attend.
  16. Pop in on a kickoff meeting for a project to say thank you.
  17. Schedule a team community service day and volunteer together at a local charity.
  18. Establish a regular team social lunch at Val.
