Location: 56 Wisdom Way, Greenfield, MA 01301

This cemetery contains the grave of Greenfield resident James Deane, the collector of dinosaur track specimens who first introduced them to Amherst College President and state geologist Edward Hitchcock. A physician by trade, Deane considered geology and paleontology side interests (though he published important works in their studies). He is most famous for his book Ichnographs from the Sandstone of Connecticut River which was full of beautiful photographs of the trackways. He was also well known for his long-standing rivalry with Hitchcock over deserved credit for the discovery of the tracks.
