Teaching Objective: Visualize locations described in stories set in Spain in the Middle Ages, e.g. the Alhambra in Granada, to establish a visual frame of reference for the stories, as well as gain an appreciation for the architecture and landscapes of the complex.

Project Description: Professor Infanteā€™s First-Year Seminar on Coexistence: Christians, Muslims, and Jews in Spain in Fall 2018 explored the multicultural history of Spain in the Middle Ages through reading literature set in the period, along with historical accounts and legal documents, and viewing maps and films. Using Google Earth VR, the students visited the beautiful Alhambra, a medieval palace, fortress, and citadel located in Granada, Spain. Granada, as described in the novella The Abencerraje. The ATS team guided students through an immersive tour of the Generalife Gardens, the Courtyard of the Lions, and the Hall of Abencerrajes. Students explored the tiled walkways in the gardens, the fountain in the courtyard, and the frescos in the hall.
